St Marys Services
SUNDAY
10.00am This is a modern language Eucharist service with a lively feel aimed at families. It will usually last under an hour. There are songs, prayers and a short talk which seeks to enage children and adults alike. Sunday school is available for all children from Nursery upwards and a sound proof room (the Cromwell Room) for the smaller and noisier members of the congregation.
6pm Caritas is a Eucharist service, the emphasis of which will be on prayerfulness and reflection. There will be hymns and a sermon. This service is designed for those who find Sunday mornings a bit too boisterous. In addition, there are sometimes additional services around particular festivals. For example, Compline during Advent, Epiphany, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week etc.

About Us

The Mission Statement at St Mary’s

‘At St Mary’s CE Primary School, we aim to provide a high quality of education to enable every child to reach their fullest potential within an inclusive and nurturing Christian community’

How the School is run

Children who are offered places in the Nursery join the school in the September after their 3rd birthday. Children join the Reception Class at the start of the Autumn term, before the school year in which they have their fifth birthday.

The Nursery and Reception Classes follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum and this is reflected in the work organised for the children.

After the Reception year the children move into Year 1 and thence into Year 2 completing what is known as Key Stage One.

In the September after their 7th birthday the children move into Key Stage Two which last four years.

All children are grouped by age into a class of 30 children, each with its own class teacher. The classes supported by a large team of Primary School Support Assistants.

The Head has overall control of the internal management and discipline of the school.

Parental Involvement

Parents have a part to play. No one else can help the children as much as their parents can.

There is nothing that will help children so much as knowing that their parents and their teacher want the same for them – and from them.

We are glad to see parents in school and we will invite you to come and discuss your child’s progress. From time to time problems may arise and these need to be discussed with parents and the class teacher or Head.

Please let us know if you need a special interview before problems grow, and we will do the same.

Before your child starts school you will be invited to a meeting, during which we will explain some ways in which you might like to help him or her to prepare for school.

Once your child is attending school you can help him or her by supporting the Home School Agreement Partnership which we reproduce here:

HOME SCHOOL AGREEMENT PARTNERSHIP

St. Mary’s CE School is a Church of England school which is part of a wider Christian family. The school benefits from strong links with the Parish of Putney (The churches of St. Mary the Virgin, Putney Bridge with All Saints Putney Common) and the support of the Southwark Diocesan Board for Education.

As set out in the Mission Statement in the School Prospectus, Christian values are at the heart of all that we do. At St. Mary’s CE School we believe that successful partnership between the School, the church, the parents and the children help each pupils to take full advantage of all that the school has to offer. The following agreement supports this partnership in the interests of our children.

• Support the values of the School.

AS A SCHOOL WE WILL …………..

 Monitor the progress of children and provide advice and guidance over their work.
 Provide homework in accordance with the School Homework Policy.

AS PARENT/GUARDIAN I WILL ……

• Let the School know of any concerns about my child.
• Regularly attend parents’ meetings to review my child’s progress.
• Support the School’s rules and expectations as set out in the Behaviour Policy.
• Ensure that my child attends school regularly, on time and with everything s/he needs.
• Ensure that homework is completed and returned on time.
• Encourage my child to take part in the full life of the Church School.
