St Marys Services
SUNDAY
10.00am This is a modern language Eucharist service with a lively feel aimed at families. It will usually last under an hour. There are songs, prayers and a short talk which seeks to enage children and adults alike. Sunday school is available for all children from Nursery upwards and a sound proof room (the Cromwell Room) for the smaller and noisier members of the congregation.
6pm Caritas is a Eucharist service, the emphasis of which will be on prayerfulness and reflection. There will be hymns and a sermon. This service is designed for those who find Sunday mornings a bit too boisterous. In addition, there are sometimes additional services around particular festivals. For example, Compline during Advent, Epiphany, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week etc.

Applying for a Place

Nursery Class Applicants

Children are eligible for the Nursery class from the school year (1st September – 31st August) after their third birthday. There are eight full time places, eighteen a.m. and eighteen p.m. places allocated according to the St Mary’s School Admissions Policy. (The eight full time places are allocated according to Wandsworth Borough Council guidelines). Acceptance into the Nursery does not guarantee a place in the Reception Class. The cut off date for applications to the Nursery Class to be received at the school is Friday February 6th 2009.

Reception Class Applicants

Parents may apply for a place by completing the Council’s Application Form available from the Education Department.

Parents applying under criteria 3 or 4 will be sent a Church Supplementary Form from the Admissions Officer to complete and return to school before 16th January 2009.
The cut off date for applications for the Reception Class to be received by Wandsworth Council is 23rd January in 2009. Successful applicants will be asked to sign a declaration that parents will support the school aims and policies. Applications for the Reception Class received after 23rd January will be placed on a waiting list by the Council.

Children must be 4 years old by 31st August to be eligible for entry into the Reception Class in September and the places are allocated around Easter of that year.

Parents are sent a letter offering a place and asked to respond within a set period of time. They are also asked to sign the Home School Partnership Agreement.

Year One to Year Six

Parents of children who are older than Reception Class may apply at any time and will be required to complete an application form available from Miss Bane in the main school office. If necessary, names will be added to a ranked waiting list.

For all enquiries relating to Admissions please call or email Miss Nikki Bane on 0208 788 9591 or nikkibaneatstmarys@yahoo.co.uk

The Governors’ Admissions Policy (as at September 2008)

The school is part of the locally agreed co-ordination scheme and the timescales for applications to be received and processed are those agreed with the Local Authority. Parents must complete the Local Authority’s Common Application Form (CAF) and return the form to the Authority; if applying for a place at this school, parents must name this school as one of the preferences on the CAF. Parents who wish to apply for a place under the church criteria must also complete the school’s Church Supplementary Form and return this to the school. Failure to return the Church Supplementary Form will mean that the school cannot consider the application under the church criteria, in this case the application will be considered under the next most appropriate criteria based on the information on the CAF.

In accordance with the school’s ethos and aims the Governors have established the following order of criteria for admissions:-

1.Children * ‘Looked After’ (* A ‘looked after child’ is a child who is in care of a local authority or provided with accommodation by that authority – see section 22 of the Children Act 1989)

2.Children who have a sibling on the roll of the main school on the date of entry of the applicant. (A sibling for these purposes is defined as a blood relative, step-sibling, foster child and adoptive child, living permanently at the same address and of Reception Class age or older).

3.Children whose families worship at, and are active* in the life of, the Church in the Parish of St Mary with All Saints’, Putney.

4.Children whose families are active* members of The Parish of St Margaret’s Putney, Putney Methodist Church and St Simon Stock RC Church and live within the parishes of St Mary & All Saints and St Margaret’s Putney.

5.Children who live locally.

* For definition of active see list below

If the school is oversubscribed at criteria 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 the following will be used to determine priority in this order:
a) Children with an exceptional and professional supported medical or social need for a place at this school. This must be supported by written evidence, eg, from a Doctor, Social Worker, or Educational Psychologist which sets out the reasons why this school is the most suitable school and the difficulties that would be caused if the child had to attend another school.

b) Those living nearest to the school entrance measured by the shortest, walking distance from the door of the home to the main school gate.

Disappointed Applicants

When demands exceeds the number of places available, some applicants are disappointed. Parents have the right to appeal against any decision made by or on behalf of the Governors refusing a child admission. The appeal must be made, in writing to the Clerk of the Appeals Committee c/o the school address, within fourteen days (2 weeks) of receipt of the letter of refusal.

The Governors will establish a ranked waiting list, in accordance with the Admissions Criteria, of unsuccessful applicants.

Definition of Active

‘Active in the work and worship of the Parish of Putney’ means:

Regular attendance at the worship of the Parish in either or both Churches for at least two years before the closing date for application: this is understood to mean more than once a month.

An active commitment to the work and life of the Parish. This can be expressed in a number of ways:
a) Children regular in the Sunday Schools of the Parish as evidenced from the Sunday School Register
b) Membership of the Parochial Church Council, or one of it’s Committees or sub-Committees.
c) Major office holder in the Parish e.g. Warden, Treasurer, Sacristan etc.) from the date of the last APCM of the Parish (always before the end of April).
d) Participation through a parish organisation service (such as Sidesmen/women, cleaning, Pastoral Forum, assisting with fund-raising or major events etc.)
Points (a) to (d) represents the kinds of participation which may be seen as evidence of being active in the life and work of the Parish. This is not an exclusive or exhaustive list. It is further understood that more than one of these kinds of participation will be the case.

Children with Disabilities

Children with disabilities are welcomed into the school, and whenever possible a reasonable adaptation will be made for them.

Visits by Parents of Prospective Pupils

Parents of Reception class applicants are automatically offered an opportunity to visit the school during the school year preceding the September of proposed entry. The school holds an annual ‘Open Evening’ in October.

Published Intake

For the Nursery Class the intake is set at 36 part-time and 8 full-time children.

For the Reception Class to Year 6 the intake is set at a maximum of 30 children per year group.
