Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education

PSHE

In Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education our pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepare for life and work in modern Britain.

At St Mary’s we follow the Jigsaw PSHE scheme of work. Our aim is to provide our children with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, values and skills they need in order to reach their full potential as individuals and within the community.

Children are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, contributing fully to the life of the school and community. They learn to recognise their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning and become more reflective on their own experiences. Children will also tackle many spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

Children are learning to understand and respect our common humanity, diversity and differences so that they can go on to form effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning.

The PSHE curriculum at St. Mary’s is defined by the following objectives:

  • Have a sense of purpose
  • Value self and others
  • Form relationships
  • Make and act on informed decisions
  • Communicate effectively
  • Work with others
  • Respond to challenges
  • Be an active partner in their own learning
  • Be active citizens within the local community
  • Explore issues related to living in a democratic society
  • Become healthy and fulfilled individuals

Sex and Relationship Education (SRE)

At St Mary’s Church of England Primary School we teach Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) as part of our integrated PSHE curriculum. However, due to the sensitive nature of this area of the school’s curriculum we would like to provide you with information about SRE on its own page:
